Simple Means Less Stress

11th February 2026 Sample Image

I have long been a believer that simple is best - and I feel it more so now than ever.
In this age of increased technological sophistication, with tech being increasingly taking the front and centre stage of our lives more than ever, I find it vital that time is found to unwind and switch off from the grid. In fact, more and more people including psychologists have been saying this for quite some time and there is growing evidence of the link between increased technology and deterioating mental health. There is quite an appropriate meme going around at the moment following the relative commercial failure of Microsoft Windows 11 (at least compared to its predecessor) with the question "what killed Microsoft windows?" showing a screenshot of Microsoft Paint prompting the user to sign into a Microsoft account with the footer "This. This is what killed Microsoft Windows". There is growing concern in the UK about the proposed digital ID by the current Labour government, with civil pressure groups such as Big Brother Watch and the Facebook group "No to Digital Defiance" being key players in the campaign. Tech is creeping into every aspect of our lives and people should not be co-erced into using it if they don't want to. The term "digital jail" is banded about a fair bit these days and with good reason. Just imagine a world where you cannot get a doctor's appointment without a digital health passport, you cannot drive your new car without signing into a computer linked to the government so it can track you with its "pay per mile" policy, you cannot charge your electric car without some form of ID, you get the picture. There is a good analogy of the frog being in the pan, and getting gradually acclimatised to the increasing hot water until it is too late to get out and this is what is happening here unless we are vigilant and stand up against it. Remember the uproar about supermarket cameras watching you on the self-checkout? That soon died down didn't it? The lame-ass argument "if you have nothing to hide..." just doesn't wash with me. This is not about safety, it's about control and our freedom - and we must be vigilant about its surrender at all times!
