My Journey Into Computers

Power without the price!

I can't precisely remember my first encounter with a computer, but when I was a toddler I had the Tomy driving game which I really enjoyed playing, and my brother had an Amstrad CPC 464 and a Firefox F-1 handheld game. I must have been around three of four, I remember going into my brother's room, he had the matching grey desk for his Amstrad and monitor, and was playing a game but needed to use the bathroom, he said "whatever you do don't press the red button" (the Esc key). Naturally, attracted by it's bright colour, I was instrigued what would happen. My brother returned and that was the first time I heard the word "bastard". I used to play Postman Pat 2 on it, being a huge fan of the programme as a child. When I started infant school, there was an Acorn computer on a trolley in the corner and I can remember using the paint program on it, we had Acorn computers and BBC Micros all through primary school. I still have some of the work I produced on it in a book somewhere. Eventually by around Christmas 1991 or 92 my brother upgraded his CPC to a Sega Master System and I informally inherited the CPC and had a lot of fun playing on it though the waiting for games to load was very painful! I actually still have the very same CPC, and there are images of me with it below.

My Current Ratings

As I play every day if I put my rating here it would be outdated information almost immediately, so the best way to track my rating is to follow me on both Chess.com and Lichess - my username there is Plechaim so should be easy for you to remember. Feel free to send a challenge for a game some time!

My Chess Content

One of the first Youtube channels I watched apart from Gothamchess was Chess with Patrick who was doing videos on his journey to 2000 ELO, and he is still on that journey today. I then began watching other Chess YouTube channels such as Apex Chess, Neanderthalchess, Anna Cramling and Blunderman which inspired me to start making my own chess videos as I found watching people play Chess interesting and entertaining - even those who werent professional players, so gathered I could make some interesting content too. You can Subscribe to me on youtube to see my chess content - along with other content I post from time to time including footage on music and computing.
